History

The Village of Sloan, located just east of the Buffalo city line, attracted new comers with its spacious lots and easy access. Being that there was no Catholic church in the Village, its residents were forced to attend Mass in a neighboring parish. The Poles walked down Broadway to St. John Kanty Parish, but for the school aged children this was a great distance to travel, especially during the winter months. In 1914, the pastor of St. John's, Fr Andrzej Gartska, seeing the plight of his parishioners in Sloan, asked the Bishop to form a new parish for them. Bishop Colton granted the request and appointed Fr. Gartska to assist in the organization. The Protestant church located on Halstead Street, was rented until land and funds were secured for building their own facility.

A combination building was constructed on Crocker and Andrew Street, when the Bishop appointed the first resident pastor, Fr. Franciszek Kaluzny. The Felician Sisters from St. John Kanty's commuted to the new school until a convent was established for them. With a steady influx of new families to the area, the church/school building was becoming too crowded. Under the pastorship of Rev. Wm. Wozniak, plans became a reality, when construction began on a new church. The modern facility was completed in 1956. A new two story school was built by the Rev. Wladyslaw Malinski in the 1960s and serves the community today. The former school has been renovated to accommate the needs of the parishes societies. The Rev. Robert Moss is pastor.
