History

The origins of St. Michael's Polish National Catholic Church date back to a meeting held in the home of Mr. Stanislaw Kiszewski on Aug 14,1917. Present were several men who had moved their families from Buffalo, New York to the city of Niagara Falls. The committee sought the advise and guidance of Rev. Walenty Gawrychowski of the Holy Mother of the Rosary Parish in Buffalo, who worked hand and hand with them to organize a new parish there. Parish trustees were elected and with their help funds were received and the task of looking for land or building began. The committee was fortunate to find a useable Prostenatant church for sale. The church also had a social hall adjoining on the property which would serve as a gathering place for parish societies and enable the organization to stage plays and other social events. As the parish began to grow, Rev Gawrychowski appointed a pastor to the parish, Rev. Marian Guzek became its first pastor. After the establishment of the Buffalo-Pittsburgh Diocese ofthe Polish National Catholic Church in 1936, the first bishop, Rev Jan Zenon Jasinski, appointed a young cleric, Rev. Pawel Styczynski the pastor, after having served as organizer of the PNCC parish in Toronto, Ontario.
