A direct result of railroad expansion to the east of Buffalo, was the founding of the village of Depew, NY. Simultaneously, the number of immigrants to the Buffalo area was increasing, the Poles were drawn to Depew in the hope of employment with the New York Central and West Shore lines. These early settlers of the town attended religious services first at St. Mary's in Lancaster, NY. When their numbers increased, Rev. Jan Pitass began commuting to Depew to administer to his fellow countrymen. At the beginning of 1896, with the approval of the bishop, the young Polish community received their first pastor, Rev. Piotr Basinski, who organized the parish of Sts. Peter & Paul. After only 9 months, Rev Basinski was reassigned and Rev. Kajetan Labuzinski became pastor and was responsible for erecting the present brick gothic church. A parish school followed in time with the Felician Sisters arriving in 1907.
The Rev. Tomasz Gwodz, who served from 1922 to 1947 was one of the longest serving pastors. His pastorate spanned the Great Depression and the Second World War, he expanded the parish complex by purchasing more land, building a parish hall and additional classrooms. In 1962 the Rev. Carl Drews came to Sts .Peter & Paul parish ,he remained until his death in 1976. Under his watchful eye, the church was renovated and modernized. He also completed a building to house a new school, social center and convent for the parish. In 1983, Sts. Peter and Paul became a combined parish school with Sacred Heart of Bowmansville, using the parish facilities, this was during the pastorate of Rev. Daniel Myszka.
The present pastor, Rev. Stanley Nowak, (since 1986) planned a year long celebration for the parish's centennial in 1993. Being a suburban parish, the future is still bright.
