Introduction

The Dziennik dla Wszystkich "Everybody's Daily" was Buffalo's Polish daily newspaper. This paper contained many death notices of local residents or Polish immigrants making this paper a valuable resource for genealogists researching their Polish ancestors. The newspaper ran from 1911 thru 1957 with some months missing and some periods during WW2 not containing any death notices because they were National Editions. Sometimes the death notices contain the place in Poland where the person was born, but usually just says born in Poland. It sometimes states the age and how many years the person was in America. Most list family members of deceased.

Since March 20, 1999 the Polish Genealogical Society of New York State began indexing all the surnames the Dziennik dla Wszystkich. With 8 volunteers viewing rolls of microfilms at libraries in Western New York, we've compiled over 26,000 surnames thus far which covers about 39 years. The 39 years are not consecutive as volunteers are indexing different years.

Completed Years

1911 to 1949

Partially Completed Years: 1950, 1951, 1957.

Check back from time to time or ask for the update on a particular time period. When time permits we will make this list available. In the future we hope to offer this as an on-line feature similar to the PGS of America's "Dziennik Chicagoski".

Search of Current Index

Requests to search the current index can be made by email or postal mail (postal mail include a SASE), we will respond with the surnames we have listed at no charge. We can search females by maiden name when it was given. Please limit request to five surnames. Visit our Contact Page and select Dziennik Lookup.

Obtaining Copies of Death Notices

If you desire a copy of a "death notice" found in the index, we will have a volunteer make a copy at the facility where the film is available. This requires a $5.00 fee ($3.00 for PGSNYS members) for each request, send check or money order made out to Polish Genealogical Society of NYS, and include a self stamp addressed envelope. Without this fee requests will not be answered.

Mailing Options:
  1. US Post Office: You must enclose a SASE with your request.
  2. E-Mail: Provide your e-mail in your request.
Please mail your request to:
